Just thought I’d share a ‘behind the scenes – fly on the wall sneak peek’ of a newborn photography session with Jodie from Umbilical Love Photography :0). I will update this post with a Part 2, this will include scenes of after settling & the gorgeous resulting images from this session.
We were truly blessed to document the start of the twin journey for the gorgeous Kate & Craig of their precious twin boys.
If you have been following Kates pregnancy journey – you will remember her beautiful baby shower filled with such love, joy & emotion HERE… also Kate’s gorgeous Maternity session HERE…
Contrary to popular belief, a lot of time and effort goes into preparing & capturing a newborn, at their newborn baby photography session – which is typically held within the first 10 days – 2 weeks of a precious babies life…
Within this post, I will do my best to explain a few different aspects – I would be here all day if I went through all the aspects & elements of these gorgeous sessions! :0)
The #1 priority is to keep these precious ones in a familiar and comfortable environment to which they have been accustomed – this involves – amongst other things – maintaining a fairly warm environment to create a womb like atmosphere within the studio, making your precious bundle feel warm & secure. I also use ‘white noise’ for familiar sounds of the womb so your precious baby feels right at home…
My newborn baby photography sessions are not run to a timetable! The session is run around your new baby and his or her cues 100% of the session. It is all about creating the optimum environment – the moments will come! Patience is the key!
The sessions involve capturing your baby/ies in their natural beauty allowing them to move freely & capturing their movements in time forever. The session involves a load of wee’s, poo’s & spit, & the biggest of all PATIENCE… We really do all laugh through newborn sessions; they are so much fun – even though all of this sounds really gross, ha ha! Newborns have the cutest expressions – they can make the weirdest looks extremely cute!
I have had some parent’s tell me in surprise of how little I actually snap away, thats totally correct, 3/4’s of the session is making sure baby is happy, warm & content. Once we change to a different position and let baby settle in his/her natural flow the process will begin again. Happy baby equals peaceful natural photos.
Simple is best, I capture what your baby does naturally & once we have those shots, and if baby is happy to keep going then I will try some more “posed” images.
For this beautiful session that we captured yesterday, I asked the gorgeous Nic from You & Me Photography to join me at my natural light photography studio in Palmwoods on the Sunshine Coast to help me as we had double the fun yesterday, which in reality meant possibly double the mess, I was quite surprised as we only had 2 things to launder from this session, WOW!… Nic got pee’d on first thing though! – I KNEW there was a reason I asked her to come along! he he, ok, I’m not laughing, really I’m not…
Thanks so much for your help, gorgeous – you were amazing with those babies. We have some really amazing images of the gorgeous two.
Can’t wait to share more soon.
Much Love ~ Jodie

At work working a calming environment…
